The World Series of Poker is back after a 26-month hiatus. This year’s event promises all kinds of activities for the players. The games take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Players will compete in the tournaments that players are used to. This year, 2021, also brings a lot of new things to discover.
Different tournaments on the menu
From 30 September to 23 November, players from almost all over the world will compete for winnings and, above all, for the coveted gold bracelets. A total of 88 of these symbolic jewels will be contested this year. Games such as Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Double Stack, Colossus, and The Closer are on the line-up. The Main Event has four opening days. The Final Table takes place on 16 and 17 November.
The organisers are spicing up this big event with tournaments offering a prize pool of C$5 million for example. There will also be a C$25,000 Heads Up No-Limit Hold’em tournament. The WSOP is raising the level of challenge in some tournaments. This is the case for the C$1,000 Seniors Doubles Up. This year, it features two starting days and one re-entry per flight. Freezouts are no longer limited to the Main Event.
The 2021 edition of the WSOP nods to the past with a modern twist, including the return of the Deuce in No-Limit format. In addition, the event pays tribute to the winners who have come and gone in the championship. All those who have their portraits on the Hall of Fame will participate in a C$1979 tournament. This symbolic sum corresponds to the date of the inauguration of the famous wall. A bounty tournament is set up for these poker elites. The bounty amount for each player is equal to their year of induction into the Hall of Fame.
Health safety instructions
The organisers prefer not to completely ignore the Covid19 threat during these championships which bring together an impressive number of players. However, they are keen to ensure that participants can enjoy the games without too much discomfort. For example, it is not compulsory to wear a mask when the players are at the table. They must wear it as soon as they leave the table, for whatever reason. This restriction applies during table changes, breaks, and in the aisles of the Rio Hotel. It is important to note that only the WSOP event has this exemption. Therefore, everyone who leaves the tournament rooms must wear a mask. In return, all players must be vaccinated, and be able to provide proof of this. Vaccination certificates are accepted.
The organisers are hoping for a large number of participants in 2021. These events, which serve as the World Poker Championships, have had their ups and downs in previous years. However, the lock-in should have rekindled the flame of the game in the hearts of poker fans.
